Bay Area Swelters: Heat Wave Returns!
1 Oct
Summary
- Interior Bay Area locations will reach mid- to upper 90s.
- Sea breeze will offer limited relief, especially inland.
- Remnants of Hurricane Polo influence weather patterns.

As September concludes, the Bay Area braces for a significant heatwave, marking the warmest weather since a brief heatwave three weeks prior. Interior locations, including Concord, Fairfield, and Vacaville, are projected to experience highs in the mid- to upper 90s. Most of the region, encompassing San Francisco, Oakland, and the Santa Clara Valley, will witness temperatures in the upper 70s to mid- and upper 80s.
The prevailing heat is attributed to a flexing jet stream influenced by moisture and energy from the remnants of Hurricane Polo, which is also causing severe weather in New Mexico and West Texas. While California has largely been spared direct impacts from Polo, its remnants are altering atmospheric flow, leading to a building high-pressure ridge expected to persist through the weekend. This ridge will maintain hot conditions away from the coast, with Southern California potentially reaching over 100 degrees by Saturday.
