Himalayan Wonderland Turns Traffic Nightmare
7 Oct
Summary
- Heavy snowfall created traffic jams near Adi Kailash.
- Hundreds of tourists and vehicles were stuck for hours.
- Border Roads Organisation is working to clear snow.
The high Himalayan region around Adi Kailash and Om Parvat in Uttarakhand has transformed into a breathtaking snowy landscape. However, this scenic beauty has brought considerable travel challenges.
Recent heavy snowfall, accumulating up to three to four feet, has narrowed roads and created hazardous conditions. This, coupled with a sharp increase in tourist numbers over the weekend, resulted in a significant traffic jam at an altitude of approximately 14,500 feet.
Hundreds of tourists and vehicles were reportedly stuck for hours, with traffic queues extending up to two kilometers. The sacred Parvati Kund near Adi Kailash has also frozen due to sub-zero temperatures, adding to the dramatic scenery.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is currently engaged in clearing the accumulated snow from the affected routes to restore normal traffic movement. Visitors planning trips to Adi Kailash or Om Parvat are strongly advised to check current conditions and advisories before their journey.
