The fighting in the Donbas region, which includes the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, continues to be fierce, with both sides vying for control of strategic locations. Syrskyi described the conditions near the town of Pokrovsk, a priority target for the Russian military, as "truly difficult," but stated that Ukraine must hold the line.
Despite the ongoing battles, the overall situation in the region remains fluid, with neither side able to claim a decisive advantage as of August 2025.
