Sweden to Host NATO Logistics Hub, Boosting Northern Europe Defense

On August 21, 2025, the Swedish government announced that the country will host a NATO logistics headquarters in the town of Enkoping, northwest of Stockholm. The base will be responsible for supporting troop movements and enhancing the defense of NATO's northern flank.
According to the government, the logistics center will have around 70 personnel in peacetime. However, in a heightened state of alert or war, the headquarters will be able to expand to 160 personnel. The armed forces have been tasked with preparing and establishing the base, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2027.
The Swedish Defence Minister, Pal Jonson, stated that the NATO presence in Sweden will strengthen the country's security and deterrence. The logistics center will facilitate the transportation of various supplies, such as fuel, ammunition, and spare parts, as well as the movement of large amounts of equipment and personnel across Swedish territory.
Sweden's decision to host the NATO logistics hub comes after the country dropped its two-century-long military non-alignment and joined the alliance in March 2024, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
