Porn Sites: New Secret Channels for Terror Communication

Terrorist networks operating from Pakistan have shifted their communication strategies to the darker corners of the internet, exploiting adult websites and niche encrypted applications. This move aims to circumvent surveillance by Indian security agencies. By using platforms like pornographic and dating sites, which are often banned in India and accessed through VPNs, operatives and their handlers can mask their digital activities.

These new methods involve covert chat rooms on adult sites for passing instructions and maintaining contact with local operatives. Ultra-private applications, some with end-to-end encryption and self-destructing messages, are being used extensively to conceal identities and make tracking exceptionally difficult. Some of these applications can even function on slow 2G networks, making them viable in remote areas with poor connectivity.

Security officials indicate that Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI, is actively promoting this shadow communication ecosystem. This strategy is being employed to sustain its proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly following intensified crackdowns by Indian agencies on conventional terror communication channels. This represents a concerning development in cross-border terrorism.
