Warships from Australia and 18 allied nations, including Japan, the United States, and Papua New Guinea, recently sailed into Sydney Harbour. The impressive display was part of the Exercise Kakadu Fleet Review, which coincided with the 125th anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy's foundation. This marked the largest fleet review to be held in Sydney in over a decade.
The maritime event, which began early Saturday morning, saw 30 ships assemble. The fleet review tradition involves an inspection of amassed vessels, often during mobilizations for war or for significant commemorative events. Defence Minister Richard Marles attended the celebration aboard HMAS Canberra and noted the significance of the biennial Exercise Kakadu, describing it as the largest maritime exercise in the southern hemisphere.
NSW Police deployed significant resources to ensure public safety during the event, with officers monitoring crowds and accompanying police vessels ensuring safety among the naval ships. Authorities praised the public's respect and cooperation throughout the celebration. The warships were scheduled to depart Sydney Harbour on Sunday, following their overnight docking.
