Members of Troy University's Alpha Tau Omega fraternity are dedicating their spring break to a significant cause, embarking on a 128-mile "Walk Hard" journey. The trek from Troy, Alabama, to Panama City Beach, Florida, aims to raise crucial funds and awareness for veterans.
The fraternity brothers began their walk on Friday, reaching Bonifay, Florida, by Sunday. The initiative supports Jeep Sullivan's Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures, an organization dedicated to enhancing the physical and mental well-being of wounded veterans through nature-based recreational programs.
Before their departure, Troy University Chancellor Jack Hawkins Jr. shared the poignant story of Paul Kozak, a Vietnam veteran who survived severe injuries and extensive surgeries. This narrative served as a powerful motivator for the students, underscoring the importance of their fundraising efforts.
As of Sunday, the fraternity had already raised $110,000, with hopes to surpass the $140,000 earned last year. The students are expected to reach their destination by Wednesday, showcasing their commitment and the Greek system's dedication to community service.
