Palau Tanker Hit Near Oman; Crew Injured
1 Mar
Summary
- Oil tanker attacked near Oman's Musandam peninsula, injuring four crew members.
- The vessel, Skylight, is reportedly under U.S. sanctions for transporting Iranian oil.
- Attacks follow earlier drone strikes at Oman's Duqm commercial port.

An oil tanker flying the Palau flag sustained an attack approximately 5 nautical miles north of Khasab Port on Oman's Musandam peninsula, near the Strait of Hormuz. Four crew members, comprising 15 Indian and five Iranian citizens, were injured to varying degrees. The vessel, identified as the Skylight, had its 20-person crew evacuated following the incident.
This attack follows earlier reports of drone strikes at Oman's Duqm commercial port on the Arabian Sea. The Skylight tanker is reportedly under U.S. sanctions, accused of operating a 'shadow fleet' for transporting Iranian petroleum products in the Gulf. The tanker had been anchored in the Musandam governorate since February 22, primarily used for fueling other vessels.
The incidents mark a significant escalation in regional tensions, particularly as Oman's Musandam peninsula shares control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy chokepoint, with Iran.
