Summary
- NSCN(IM) captain arrested in Arunachal Pradesh operation.
- Found with INSAS rifle, pistol, and significant ammunition.
- Militant group aimed to kidnap or eliminate a target in the area.
Security forces apprehended a self-styled captain from the NSCN(IM) outfit in Arunachal Pradesh's Longding district on Friday. The operation, a collaborative effort by the Assam Rifles, special task force (STF), and local police, successfully thwarted a potential terror plot.
The arrested individual, identified as Ponglem Wangpan, a 35-year-old resident of Longsom village, was discovered with a cache of weapons. These included a 5.56mm INSAS rifle, a 9mm pistol, associated magazines, and various rounds of ammunition.
Officials revealed that Wangpan was part of a four-member group that had infiltrated Longding with the express purpose of kidnapping or eliminating an undisclosed target. The operation took place near Zedua village, following intelligence regarding militant movements.
Security forces have initiated extensive combing operations in the district to locate the remaining members of the group and any other active operatives. This coordinated action is credited with averting a grave terror incident and a potentially dangerous situation.
