Gunmen Kill 35 in Brutal Nigeria Village Attack
4 Feb
Summary
- At least 35 people were killed in a remote Nigerian village.
- Armed attackers burned homes and shops during the assault.
- The deadly attack occurred in Nigeria's north-central Kwara State.

Armed attackers descended upon Woro village, a remote settlement in Nigeria's north-central Kwara State, resulting in the deaths of at least 35 individuals. The assailants also set fire to homes and shops during the raid, causing widespread destruction.
Local lawmaker Sa'idu Baba Ahmed reported that between 35 and 40 bodies were counted, with many others escaping into the bush with gunshot wounds. He indicated that more casualties might be discovered. This marks the most lethal assault this year in the district adjacent to Niger State, which has seen an increase in attacks by armed gangs.
Police confirmed the attack but did not release casualty figures. The state government attributed the violence to "terrorist cells." The incident is part of a broader trend of surging banditry and armed violence across northwest and north-central Nigeria, where gangs frequently raid rural communities, kidnap residents, and steal livestock, creating a climate of fear and insecurity.
