Maoist Commander Hidma Killed: Odisha Impact

Madvi Hidma, a notorious Maoist commander recently slain in an encounter, had made a brief but notable attempt to extend his influence into Odisha's Malkangiri district approximately 13 to 14 years ago. During this period, he reportedly operated from a temporary stronghold within the Swabhiman Anchal, a region strategically situated at the border of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

While Hidma was not directly implicated in any violent acts within Odisha, his supervisory role in the area is considered significant by police. The rugged terrain of the cut-off region provided a sanctuary for Maoist leaders, though Hidma's presence was fleeting, lasting only about 15 days before he retreated to Chhattisgarh.

Hidma's demise is a substantial blow to the CPI (Maoist), particularly impacting its elite military unit, PLGA Battalion 1. This event is viewed as a major boost to ongoing anti-Maoist operations across India, following a series of successful encounters that have weakened the group's influence.
