Summary
- Ireland is chartering a flight from Oman to assist citizens in the Middle East.
- An estimated 22,000-23,000 Irish citizens are currently in the affected region.
- The flight will prioritize non-resident and vulnerable Irish citizens in the UAE.

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, the Irish Government announced plans to charter a flight from Oman to assist its citizens in the region. This initiative comes as a response to recent attacks that have spread across neighbouring nations and disrupted air travel. Approximately 22,000 to 23,000 Irish citizens are estimated to be in the affected area, with a smaller number having already departed.
Foreign Affairs Minister Helen McEntee stated that the government will contact Irish citizens on Wednesday to offer a seat on the charter flight, which can accommodate around 280 people. The priority for this first flight will be non-resident and vulnerable Irish citizens currently in the UAE. While commercial airlines remain the primary option, the government is exploring ways to increase direct flights from the UAE to Dublin.
McEntee emphasized that her department's consular crisis team is activating plans for assisted departures, with efforts focused on ensuring the safety of Irish citizens. Those requiring the most urgent assistance will be contacted directly. The government continues to offer consular support and advises all citizens in the region to register with their local embassy and stay updated.
