In a concerning development, a man from India's Jagatsinghpur district has been kidnapped by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Sudan. Adarsh Kumar Behera, a 37-year-old resident of Kotakna village, has been working at a plastic factory in Sudan since 2022.
In a video message, Behera is seen sitting between two RSF soldiers, pleading for help. He states that the kidnappers have kept him in Al Fashir, where the situation is "very bad." Behera's family, including his wife and two sons, are deeply worried about his well-being.
The authorities in Jagatsinghpur district have been informed about Behera's plight. The superintendent of police, Ankit Kumar Verma, said they have informed the state government and the Director-General of Police to take necessary action. Meanwhile, the Sudanese authorities have stated they are working with India's Ministry of External Affairs to secure Behera's release.
The ongoing civil war in Sudan between the RSF and the national army has displaced millions and left large parts of the country in crisis. Behera's family is oscillating between hope and despair, as the Indian government has not been able to provide them with any concrete information about his situation.
The kidnapping has exposed the dangers faced by people from Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts who work in war-torn countries like Sudan, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Libya. These individuals often risk their lives to earn a livelihood, and the government is being urged to extend all possible assistance to ensure their safety.
