An Indian citizen, who was critically injured in a Houthi attack on Riyadh's airport last month, has succumbed to their injuries. This brings the total number of Indian nationals killed since the conflict in West Asia began in February to 24.
The Indian embassy in Riyadh confirmed the death, offering condolences and assistance to the family for the repatriation of mortal remains or local funeral arrangements. The embassy emphasized its continued support for the bereaved family.
Seafarers represent the majority of Indian fatalities in the region, with 15 among the 24 deceased. A recent incident off the coast of Oman saw an Indian seafarer perish when a projectile struck an Indian-flagged cargo vessel. Oman's Coast Guard successfully rescued 13 other Indian seafarers from the affected vessel.
Amidst the ongoing hostilities, Indian authorities are working with airlines to facilitate the return of hundreds of Indian pilgrims stranded in Saudi Arabia due to flight suspensions. New Delhi has consistently advocated for an end to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supporting the restoration of peace in West Asia.
