India Accelerates Drone Warfare Amid Iran-Israel Conflict
8 Mar
Summary
- India speeds up long-range strike drone projects post Iran-Israel war.
- Sheshnaag drone recently completed highway launch trials.
- Project KAL, inspired by Iran's Shahed drone, is fast-tracked.

The ongoing Iran-Israel conflict has significantly intensified India's focus on developing long-range, low-cost strike drones. The large-scale deployment of Iran's Shahed drones against Israeli air defenses has underscored the effectiveness of such unmanned systems, prompting India to accelerate its own projects.
India recently conducted highway launch trials for its Sheshnaag drone, a development that gained momentum after the conflict began. Concurrently, Project KAL, an Indian drone concept drawing parallels to Iran's Shahed, is also being fast-tracked for operational readiness.
The Sheshnaag-150 drone, developed by Newspace Research Technologies, boasts an operational range exceeding 1,000 km and an endurance of over five hours. It is designed for autonomous target identification and engagement, capable of carrying substantial warheads to damage critical infrastructure.
This accelerated development reflects a strategic shift within India's military, recognizing long-range strike drones as essential components of modern warfare. The expedited testing cycles, including unconventional launch methods like highway operations, aim to equip India with advanced drone capabilities swiftly.
