Attendees expressed their delight at the monument's pristine condition. Frances Yeaman, 91, laid a wreath for her husband, noting the cenotaph looked 'really beautiful'. The council's deputy leader emphasized the importance of the monument being clean for remembrance services.
The cleaning project was completed by Joel Haigh, who undertook the work in memory of his grandfather, Len Wooldridge, a participant in the D-Day landings. Haigh described the hand-scrubbing process as a pleasure. Veterans noted the cenotaph's improved appearance, appreciating the council's efforts to maintain heritage sites.
