Deadly Explosion Kills Child in Guyana Gas Station Attack

On October 23rd, 2025, a deadly explosion rocked a gas station in Georgetown, the capital of Guyana. The blast killed an 8-year-old girl and injured four other people, two of them seriously. Authorities are investigating the incident as a suspected terrorist attack.

According to the police, a man was seen planting explosives near propane gas cylinders at the gas station on Regent Street before fleeing the scene. The powerful explosion was heard in several districts more than a mile away. President Irfaan Ali has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the precise cause and circumstances of the attack.

This is the third such incident in Guyana this year. Earlier in 2025, attacks occurred at a police station and a state-owned power plant substation, though no motive has been provided for those incidents either. A man from Guyana was charged in the power plant attack, with police accusing him of assisting the unidentified main suspects.

As the investigation into the latest attack continues, the government is urging the public to help locate the suspect. The tragic loss of the young girl's life has shaken the community, and authorities are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
