A Coastal Bend community recently united in Aransas Pass to provide the final touches for a specially adapted home for Army SGT Tyler Sloan. Sloan, who sustained critical injuries during his service in Iraq in 2006, will soon move into his new, accessible residence.
The home, a project by the nonprofit Homes for Our Troops, is designed with features to ease daily living for Sloan, such as wider doorways and lowered countertops. Volunteers dedicated their Saturday to laying nearly 30 pallets of sod, ensuring the property was picture-perfect.
Sloan shared his overwhelming gratitude for the turnout, describing it as 'mind blowing' and 'awe-inspiring.' He also reflected on the enduring support for veterans, even years after the conflict. He emphasized that organizations like Homes for Our Troops remain vital, providing life-changing assistance.
Homes for Our Troops is a national nonprofit dedicated to constructing and donating custom-adapted homes to severely injured post-9/11 veterans. Sloan noted that several fellow service members are also benefiting from this program, urging further support for the organization's mission.
