On September 7, 2026, a solemn ceremony was held in Dhamupur village, Ghazipur district, to commemorate the 61st martyrdom anniversary of Company Quartermaster Havildar Abdul Hamid. Hamid, a decorated soldier of 4 Grenadiers and a recipient of the Param Vir Chakra (Posthumous), sacrificed his life during the Indo-Pak War of 1965.
Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth paid homage to the national hero at the event. The ceremony was attended by senior military officials, veterans, and members of Hamid's family. His exceptional bravery during the Battle of Asal Uttar on September 10, 1965, was remembered.
Amidst intense enemy fire, CQMH Abdul Hamid strategically positioned himself with a jeep-mounted recoilless rifle. He displayed remarkable skill and bravery, destroying several enemy tanks and playing a critical role in repelling a major armored assault. His actions halted the enemy advance until he made the supreme sacrifice.
