25 Mar
Summary
- Zoox robotaxi service is expanding to Austin and Miami.
- New product updates include 'Find My Zoox' and 'Zooxcast'.
- Zoox focuses on custom robotaxis, differing from Waymo's approach.

Zoox is expanding its autonomous ride-hailing service, bringing its purpose-built robotaxis to Austin, Texas, and Miami, Florida. These cities have seen retrofitted testing fleets since 2024, but this move signifies the rollout of Zoox's signature vehicle, designed as a communal space with facing seats.
Initially, rides in Austin and Miami will be limited to Zoox employees and their acquaintances. The company plans to broaden access as its testing phase continues. Concurrently, Zoox is enhancing its service in San Francisco and Las Vegas, increasing pick-up and drop-off locations, including key Strip hotels and the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Further improvements include limited event service at The Sphere and T-Mobile Arena, with future plans for airport service to Harry Reid International Airport. In San Francisco, expanded coverage will encompass areas like the Marina, North Beach, Chinatown, Pacific Heights, and the Embarcadero starting this spring.
Zoox is also introducing two new features: "Find My Zoox" uses distinct lighting and sound cues to help riders locate their assigned vehicle, while "Zooxcast" allows passengers to play their own audio via Bluetooth. This strategic expansion positions Zoox against competitors like Waymo, emphasizing a unique, custom-designed robotaxi experience.
