YouTube's AI Search: Get Answers in Seconds

YouTube is currently experimenting with a novel conversational AI search capability designed to enhance user experience on the platform. Dubbed Ask YouTube, this feature presents query responses through a blend of text summaries and curated video suggestions, including both long-form content and Shorts.

While Google has not officially disclosed the underlying technology, it is widely believed that Gemini AI tools power Ask YouTube, drawing information directly from the vast library of uploaded videos. This differs from the existing 'Ask' button found under individual videos, which is limited to inquiries about that specific video.

Access to this advanced feature is restricted to users who are at least 18 years old, reside in the United States, and maintain an active YouTube Premium subscription. Furthermore, participants must manually activate the feature through YouTube Labs. The recent price adjustments for YouTube Premium plans, with monthly subscriptions increasing from $13.99 to $15.99 and annual plans rising from $139.99 to $159.99, precede this testing phase.
