YouTube Shorts Timer: Turn Them Off Completely!
16 Apr
Summary
- YouTube now allows a zero-minute time limit for Shorts.
- This feature helps users manage their time on the app.
- The update is available for both Android and iOS users.

YouTube has rolled out a new feature enabling users to set a zero-minute time limit for their Shorts consumption. This update, an expansion of the Shorts timer initially announced last October, allows for complete removal of Shorts content from the app. The lowest previous setting was 15 minutes, making this zero-minute option a significant change for time management.
The feature is now live for all users, including those with regular adult accounts, following its earlier expansion in January for parental controls. According to YouTube spokesperson Makenzie Spiller, the zero-minute limit is now available for all parents and is currently being rolled out universally.
This tool is beneficial for anyone aiming to reduce their time spent scrolling through Shorts. Upon reaching the set limit, the Shorts tab will cease to display videos, instead showing a "reached your Shorts feed limit" notification. Testing indicates that activating the time limit also removes Shorts from the Home screen. Users can enable this feature by navigating to settings within the YouTube app, selecting 'time management,' and then activating the Shorts feed limit with a zero-minute duration.
