14 Apr
Summary
- Ads pause automatically when live chat engagement is at its peak.
- Viewers sending gifts get an ad-free window for creator interaction.
- Live streams can now be viewed and supported in horizontal format.

YouTube has introduced a new feature to automatically pause advertisements during live streams when chat engagement reaches its highest levels. This aims to preserve the immersive experience for viewers, ensuring they don't miss key moments when the community is most active.
The platform stated that its system recognizes peak live chat activity and will hold back ads for all viewers to maintain the collective vibe. This applies to creators who have enabled automatic ads.
Viewers who contribute through gifts will receive their own ad-free viewing window, allowing for uninterrupted interaction with the creator. Furthermore, YouTube now allows viewers to send gifts during horizontal live streams, expanding on its previous vertical-only support. Creators can also more easily set up events that work seamlessly across both horizontal and vertical orientations.
These changes follow recent updates including 30-second unskippable ads on its TV app and a price increase for its Premium service to $15.99 per month.
