X Battles Bots with New Video Editing Tools

X is enhancing its platform with new video editing and recording capabilities to foster original content creation. These updates include tools for overlaying multilingual captions and applying green-screen effects, directly addressing the issue of recycled material that dominates many accounts.

Nikita Bier, head of product, stated the priority is to equip creators with tools for original content and reward them accordingly. The aim is to feature unique videos not found elsewhere, combating the five-year-old trend of viral content theft.

To cultivate a robust creator ecosystem, X must ensure creators can reach genuine audiences for monetization, facing stiff competition from platforms like TikTok, Meta, and YouTube. The social network also needs to address creator relations and implement theft-reporting tools similar to Meta's and YouTube's.

Most critically, X must tackle its overwhelming bot population, which exacerbates content scraping and theft. The platform is actively identifying and suspending bots at a high rate, with a significant portion of its product team dedicated to mitigating spam.

Video content already constitutes nearly half of X's impressions, indicating the strategic importance of this update. While other platforms like Reddit also face increasing spam from AI, X's video editor is initially available on its iOS app as the Android version is rebuilt.
