Xiaomi's New Foldable Phone Challenges Apple & Samsung

Xiaomi recently showcased its latest foldable smartphone at IFA in Berlin, featuring a distinctive passport-style foldable design. This new device aims to compete directly with offerings from Samsung and anticipated models from Apple.

The phone sports a compact 5.38-inch outer display that expands to a 7.58-inch inner screen, a form factor praised for its refreshing and fun usability. The inner display appears bright with a barely noticeable crease. Xiaomi highlights a custom three-link hinge design for enhanced durability.

Internally, Xiaomi has equipped this foldable with its own XRing 03 processor, a significant move indicating a desire for greater product control, similar to Apple and Google. The device also includes a 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 6,000mAh silicon carbon battery.

While initial impressions are positive regarding its sophisticated feel and intriguing passport format, availability outside mainland China remains uncertain, with no official sales planned for the US. The company's independent chip development will be further tested in benchmarks.
