24 Mar
Summary
- Develop for current Xbox consoles and PC first.
- Project Helix will be easier for developers to work with.
- Alpha hardware for Project Helix expected in 2027.

Xbox portfolio and programs general manager Chris Charla has urged game developers to focus on creating titles for current-generation Xbox consoles and PCs. This approach is recommended to ensure a smooth transition and native compatibility with the upcoming Project Helix.
Charla explained that Project Helix is being designed to be more accessible for developers. He anticipates offering comprehensive support similar to current Xbox development, including assistance with APIs, backend systems, and business processes. Developers are encouraged to leverage Xbox Play Anywhere and to consider starting with an Xbox PC build as a foundation for the console version.
The alpha hardware for Project Helix is scheduled to be in developers' hands beginning in 2027. Microsoft has disclosed that the console will feature next-generation performance, including a custom AMD-based SOC, enhanced DirectX and FSR support, and improved ray tracing capabilities.
