Leaks indicate that Microsoft is preparing to release a successor to the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2, a product that has been on the market for seven years. The new controller, internally codenamed Edessa, is expected to feature significant technological advancements aimed at improving performance and durability.
A major highlight is the anticipated inclusion of Hall-effect and TMR sticks. These magnetic sensing technologies are designed to prevent the stick drift issues that have plagued previous potentiometer-based analog sticks, offering a more reliable gaming experience.
Further enhancements include advanced haptic feedback, potentially utilizing voice-coil motors similar to those found in the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller. This would allow for more nuanced and immersive vibration effects in games, going beyond traditional rumble.
Gamers can also look forward to an improved D-pad with multiple customization options, a dedicated audio scroll wheel for easy volume adjustment, and extensive faceplate choices. Additional features include low-friction sticks and redesigned paddles, offering a highly personalized controller setup. With a possible launch on the horizon, these leaks suggest a substantial upgrade for Xbox's premium controller line.
