- Matrix aircraft weighs nearly 11,000 pounds.
- China is establishing regulations for its low-altitude economy sector.

Shanghai-based AutoFlight has revealed Matrix, now recognized as the world's largest flying car, following successful flight tests near the city. This aircraft represents a significant advancement in the burgeoning low-altitude economy sector, which focuses on short-distance electric flights for people and cargo above urban areas.
The Matrix aircraft boasts impressive dimensions, weighing nearly 11,000 pounds with a wingspan of approximately 66 feet. It is available in two configurations: one for passenger transport capable of seating up to 10 individuals, and another designed for heavy cargo operations. AutoFlight's development is supported by CATL, a major electric vehicle battery manufacturer.
China is proactively establishing a regulatory environment for the low-altitude economy, aiming for baseline rules by 2027 and over 300 detailed standards by 2030. This includes standards for aircraft design, safety, air traffic control, and infrastructure, preparing cities for widespread adoption of air taxi and cargo services.
AutoFlight previously achieved full certification in China for its cargo aircraft, CarryAll, demonstrating practical application through inter-city cargo flights. The company is now focusing on passenger aircraft, with certification expected within one to two years and orders already being accepted. Industry experts anticipate 2026 will be a pivotal year for flying cars in China, potentially seeing the first paid passenger flights and new infrastructure development.
