World ID: Now Verifying Humans on Tinder
17 Apr
Summary
- Tinder users can now display a World ID badge on profiles.
- World uses iris scans for biometric verification.
- Partnerships expand World's identity verification reach.

Tools for Humanity, the company behind Sam Altman's World project, has announced a global expansion of its iris-scanning verification service to Tinder users. Announced at an event in San Francisco on Friday, users can now add a digital badge to their profiles, confirming their human identity through a scan by World's 'Orb' device.
This initiative is a significant step in World's mission to differentiate humans from AI online. The company, founded in 2019, aims to provide biometric verification for internet applications as AI becomes more sophisticated and widespread.
World has faced challenges in adoption and scrutiny over data protection. However, the company reports 18 million verifications to date. Beyond Tinder, new partnerships include Zoom and Docusign, enabling users to require World ID verification for calls and contracts, respectively.
Tools for Humanity also introduced Concert Kit, a tool for artists to reserve concert tickets for verified humans, addressing bot-driven scalping issues. This feature will be tested for a Bruno Mars concert.
World, previously known as Worldcoin, rebranded in 2024 to focus on identity verification for the AI era. While still offering cryptocurrency incentives, its strategy now emphasizes partnerships and subscription trials for services like Netflix and Apple TV.
