WordPress Adds AI Assistant to Site Editor
18 Feb
Summary
- New AI assistant aids website editing and image generation.
- Users can interact via site editor sidebar or block notes.
- AI tools must be manually enabled unless on AI builder sites.

WordPress users can now leverage a new AI assistant within the platform's site editor and media library, as reported starting Tuesday. This AI tool offers a sidebar interface for editing and translating text, as well as generating and refining images using Google's Nano Banana technology. Users can also request site modifications, such as creating new pages or altering fonts.
Further interaction is available through the block notes feature, introduced in WordPress's 6.9 update. By using the '@ai' tag in block notes, users can prompt the assistant for specific tasks, like editing a particular text block or suggesting headlines. Enabling these AI tools requires a manual toggle in site settings, unless the user has a website created with the AI website builder, where the tools are enabled by default.
