Alphabet-owned Wing is set to launch drone deliveries to residential homes in California's San Francisco Bay Area in the upcoming months. This expansion into one of its initial testing grounds aims to showcase drone technology's potential for efficiently delivering small household goods and meals directly to consumers.
Founded in the Bay Area in 2012 as part of Alphabet's experimental X unit, Wing is now actively seeking to scale its operations. The company currently provides rapid grocery and household essential deliveries for Walmart and food delivery for restaurant chains through partnerships with DoorDash.
To date, Wing has successfully completed more than 750,000 deliveries, reaching over two million customers across various U.S. locations. This latest Bay Area rollout is part of Wing's strategic effort to establish a robust logistics network focused on small-scale, local deliveries and increase its market adoption beyond current pilot regions.
