Classic Windows Movie Maker Returns!
7 Jul
Summary
- Windows Movie Maker is available again.
- It uses less RAM than Clipchamp.
- Downloadable via Internet Archive.

Windows users can now revisit a beloved piece of software with the return of Windows Movie Maker. Microsoft initially discontinued the classic video editing application in January 2017. It was later replaced by the Video Editor within the Photos app, which did not satisfy many users.
Microsoft then acquired Clipchamp and made it the default video editor for Windows 11. While functional, Clipchamp also has its drawbacks. Now, thanks to community efforts, version 6.0 of Windows Movie Maker is available for download on the Internet Archive. This classic tool has been confirmed to work on both Windows 10 and 11, providing a simpler editing experience.
