Microsoft is actively working to enhance Windows 11 by adopting a 'calm' design philosophy. This initiative aims to create a less distracting operating system experience for its over a billion users.
In a recent preview build, Microsoft is testing changes to the Widgets board. The MSN News feed, often characterized by clickbait stories, will be made 'quieter by default.' It will be moved to a separate tab, allowing for a more minimalist default view.
These updates reflect a broader commitment to prioritizing quality and fundamentals, as stated by CEO Satya Nadella. The company is also reducing AI's prominence in certain tools, like removing 'Ask Copilot' from Snipping Tool and Photos, and relabeling AI functions in Notepad to 'Writing Tools'.
