Summary

- New gesture controls, including Single Tap, enhance usability.
- The Walkie-Talkie app has been removed in this latest update.

Apple has officially released watchOS 27, a free update for compatible Apple Watches, focusing on enhanced health, fitness, and AI capabilities. The operating system introduces a dedicated Siri AI app, offering more natural and context-aware interactions, and a new Dynamic App Grid that surfaces frequently used applications. Users can also explore the customizable Siri Modular watch face and a new Single-Tap gesture control for easier Smart Stack access.
While watchOS 27 brings improvements like Call Context and Smart Stack suggestions powered by Siri, and an updated Find My app, it also removes the Walkie-Talkie app. The update requires a paired iPhone to be updated to iOS 27 first, and installation should be done while the Apple Watch is on its charger. Compatibility with watchOS 27 is limited to newer Apple Watch models, excluding some older devices like the original Apple Watch Ultra.
Indoor workout tracking accuracy is also reported to be improved in this release. The integration of AI, new user interface elements, and the removal of a beloved app represent the key changes in this latest watch operating system. Further testing will determine how Siri AI on the Apple Watch compares to other on-wrist voice assistants.
