26 Mar
Summary
- Volkswagen recalls almost 100,000 electric vehicles due to battery fire risk.
- Affected models include VW ID. series and Cupra Born manufactured between 2022-2024.
- Recalled vehicles will receive battery inspections, software updates, and potential replacements.

Volkswagen has initiated a widespread recall affecting nearly 100,000 electric vehicles due to concerns over battery safety. The recall encompasses approximately 75,000 units from Volkswagen's ID. series and nearly 20,000 Cupra Born models, manufactured between 2022 and 2024. The company has identified a potential fault in the high-voltage battery modules, which could lead to thermal overload.
While Volkswagen states the possibility of a fire is very rare and would only occur in extreme situations, other potential issues include reduced driving range or a dashboard warning light. As a precautionary measure, all affected vehicles will be inspected at a Volkswagen service centre. This inspection includes a software update to facilitate a detailed analysis of the battery modules, and any identified irregular modules will be replaced.
