Mobile operator Vodafone has forged a significant deal with Amazon Leo, the satellite internet constellation operated by Amazon.
This agreement will see Vodafone utilize Amazon Leo's network to provide 4G and 5G mobile services to masts situated in remote European and African locations. The satellite links will offer impressive speeds, reaching up to 1 Gbps for downloads and 400 Mbps for uploads, presenting a cost-effective alternative to traditional fiber optic infrastructure.
The deployment is scheduled to commence in Germany and other European nations during the current year. Subsequently, Vodafone plans a progressive rollout across the African continent, facilitated by its subsidiary, Vodacom.
Amazon Leo currently boasts over 200 satellites in orbit, with many more constructed and prepared for future launches. This partnership strengthens Vodafone's strategy to enhance connectivity in underserved regions.
