Viltrox, known for its high-quality and affordable camera lenses, has expanded its range with two new prime lenses: the AF 75mm F1.8 EVO and AF 90mm F2.2 EVO. These lenses are designed for APS-C cameras and are available for Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Nikon Z mounts, priced at $329 and $369 respectively. The 75mm lens offers an effective focal length of 113mm, while the 90mm provides a 135mm equivalent, both ideal for portrait photography.
Both lenses feature an STM autofocus motor, a clicked/de-clicked aperture ring, a customizable function button, and an AF/MF switch. They share a similar size, accept 58mm filters, and are relatively lightweight. The 75mm weighs 335g, and the 90mm weighs 320g. Neither lens is optimized for extreme close-up photography due to a minimum focus distance of 0.74m.
The introduction of these lenses for Nikon Z-mount comes amidst an ongoing lawsuit filed by Nikon against Viltrox for alleged patent infringements. The current status of this legal dispute remains unclear. However, it is unlikely that Nikon would disable compatibility with existing Viltrox lenses through firmware updates, suggesting minimal risk for Nikon users. It is possible that Viltrox may need to pay royalties, potentially increasing lens prices in the future.
