The RootMetrics State of the Mobile Union report, based on millions of tests, placed Verizon ahead in performance, reliability, responsiveness, and video capabilities. However, the competitive landscape shows minimal differences among the top three carriers.
AT&T and T-Mobile tied for network speed, while Verizon and AT&T shared the top spot for call and text performance. T-Mobile significantly leads in median download speed, with its 374.5Mbps far surpassing Verizon's 226.5Mbps and AT&T's 193Mbps. This advancement is largely attributed to the deployment of mid-band 5G spectrum.
Despite these nuances, all three carriers deliver download speeds exceeding 100Mbps, which is more than adequate for typical mobile usage. RootMetrics analysts noted that speeds above 100Mbps allow users to handle any mobile activity with ease. This improvement reflects substantial network investments and upgrades made by the carriers over recent years.
The report also detailed ongoing network improvements. AT&T is deploying new spectrum and upgrading network gear, while T-Mobile is enhancing 5G speeds through carrier aggregation. Verizon continues to expand its standalone 5G rollout and optimize its network with advanced antenna technologies, demonstrating a continuous commitment to enhancing wireless services nationwide.
