UK's First Air Taxi Factory Opens
25 Sep
Summary
- New UK facility to assemble futuristic electric air taxis.
- Aircraft will carry four passengers with zero emissions.
- The centre represents a significant step in British manufacturing.
A groundbreaking new aircraft assembly centre, the first of its kind in the UK, has been established at Cotswold Airport. This facility will produce futuristic air taxis that can take off vertically, similar to helicopters. Vertical Aerospace, a company based in Bristol, announced the development, calling it a "once-in-a-generation opportunity."
The Valo aircraft, currently undergoing development and testing at the site, are designed to be electric and will accommodate four passengers. They are projected to fly up to 160km (100 miles) without producing any operating emissions. The Minister for Reindustrialisation, Blair McDougall, stated that the new centre is poised to "help turn British innovation into British manufacturing." The new centre significantly expands Vertical Aerospace's footprint, adding 60,000 sq ft of space to their existing flight test centre at Cotswold Airport, bolstering the UK's position in advanced aerospace manufacturing.
