Twitch Cracks Down on Viewbotting with New Penalties
8 May
Summary
- Twitch will now cap concurrent viewership for persistent viewbotting.
- Penalties will be based on historical non-bot traffic data.
- Creators face increasing duration of caps for repeat offenses.

Twitch is rolling out stricter measures to combat viewbotting, a practice that artificially inflates viewership numbers. CEO Dan Clancy announced that channels identified as persistently engaging in viewbotting will have their concurrent views (CCV) capped on all Twitch surfaces for a set period. The duration of these caps will increase with repeated offenses.
This new enforcement type is designed to directly penalize creators rather than just purging bot accounts, a tactic previously employed by Twitch. The platform aims to base these caps on a streamer's historical data of legitimate traffic. Clancy noted the ongoing challenge of effectively combatting viewbotting due to the adaptive nature of botting companies, which quickly update their tools to evade detection.
