Family Call Safety: Truecaller's New Admin Power
13 Mar
Summary
- Admins can get alerts for family members' fraud calls.
- Admins can remotely end calls for Android users.
- Feature is free and available to all Truecaller users.

Caller identity platform Truecaller has rolled out a new family group feature globally, following successful trials in several countries. This free service allows a designated admin to manage a group of up to five members, enhancing their protection against scam calls. The admin can receive real-time alerts about potentially fraudulent calls received by group members.
For Android users, the admin possesses the enhanced capability to remotely terminate suspicious calls if they believe a family member is at risk of being scammed. Additionally, Android users can grant permission for their admin to monitor real-time activity like walking or driving status and battery levels, aiding in contacting them at appropriate times.
This innovation comes as Truecaller faces financial headwinds, with its stock declining significantly and operating profitability dipping. The company is also contending with India's Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) system. Truecaller emphasizes that its community-based reporting and enhanced features, like family protection, offer superior value beyond basic caller identification.
The company is exploring further AI integration to bolster scam call detection, including automatically disconnecting calls with scam-associated phrases. This aligns with their mission to combat the rising threat of scam calls, which caused significant financial losses in India last year, with Truecaller identifying over 7.7 billion such calls.
