13 Aug
Summary
- Nearly 14,000 crypto holders' personal data was exposed in a breach.
- The breach affected Trezor, a secure hardware crypto wallet provider.
- Exposed data increases risk of physical and online criminal attacks.

The personal information of almost 14,000 cryptocurrency holders has been compromised following a data breach at Trezor, a provider of secure hardware wallets. The incident involved a breach at one of Trezor's shipping partners, exposing the names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of 11,742 customers, while an additional 1,947 users had their names, cities, and emails accessed.
This breach heightens concerns for crypto holders, who have increasingly become targets of both physical and online attacks aimed at seizing their digital assets. Trezor's hardware wallets, designed to store private keys offline for enhanced security, have seen rising popularity amidst escalating hacks at crypto exchanges.
This marks the second incident impacting cold wallet users in two weeks, following a prior vulnerability in Coldcard wallets. The exposed Trezor customers are located in the US, UK, Sweden, Colombia, Brazil, Italy, and Portugal, having received devices between May 10 and August 8. Trezor has apologized and anticipates an increase in phishing attempts against affected individuals.
Recognizing the threat, Trezor is developing an anonymous delivery option for EU customers, aiming for availability by September, to allow hardware wallet purchases without linking them to real-world identities. The company's prior incident underscores the growing risks for those holding digital assets, as criminals exploit vulnerabilities for financial gain.
