TP-Link's Archer BE550 router, a Wi-Fi 7 device, is currently on sale for 40% off its list price, making it more accessible for consumers looking to upgrade their home network. The router broadcasts on three bands: 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and the newer 6GHz, with theoretical maximum speeds of 574Mbps, 2,880Mbps, and 5,760Mbps, respectively. Wi-Fi 7 introduces wider 320MHz channels and Multi-Link Operation, allowing compatible devices to connect using multiple bands simultaneously for increased speed and stability. This technology is particularly beneficial for modern devices supporting the standard, enhancing experiences like 4K/8K streaming and VR gaming.
Beyond its wireless capabilities, the Archer BE550 significantly enhances wired connectivity. The router is equipped with one 2.5-gigabit WAN port and four 2.5-gigabit LAN ports, a rarity for its class. This allows households with multi-gigabit internet plans to fully leverage their speeds for devices like desktop PCs and gaming consoles, enabling faster large file transfers and reducing latency for online gaming. TP-Link suggests the router's coverage extends up to 2,000 square feet, aided by six internal antennas and beamforming technology. For larger homes, the EasyMesh support allows for the addition of compatible extenders or additional routers to create a unified network. Setup is managed via the TP-Link Tether app, and the router includes features like HomeShield for network security and parental controls, VPN client/server functions, and voice control compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant. A dedicated network for IoT devices with WPA3 protection is also a notable security feature.
