TikTok has introduced "Local Feeds," an opt-in feature designed to personalize user content based on precise GPS location. This new functionality allows users to discover local content pertaining to travel, dining, events, and shopping.
The feature, which began rolling out on Wednesday, requires users to be 18 years or older and is switched off by default. Users can find Local Feeds as a tab within the app. TikTok states that the precise location tracking is active solely when the application is being used.
This launch marks the first new feature for US users since the company's change in ownership last month. The new US version of the app experienced a significant outage shortly after its debut, attributed by TikTok to a system failure.
