Threads Tests 'Close Friends' Feature for Private Posts
30 Oct
Summary
- Threads is testing a 'Close Friends' feature called 'Threads Friends'.
- The feature allows users to share posts with up to 50 selected friends.
- It is currently being tested in Ireland, Italy, and Japan.

Threads is currently testing a new feature designed to offer more private sharing options. Dubbed 'Threads Friends,' this functionality allows users to curate a list of up to 50 individuals, referred to as 'Thriends,' with whom they can share posts exclusively. This feature mirrors Twitter's past 'Circles' offering.
Meta is assisting users in creating their initial 'Friends' lists by suggesting followers with whom they frequently interact. Users can customize this list and access 'Friends' posts shared within the last 24 hours by tapping a green bubble in their feed. The company has not yet released detailed visuals, but a preview suggests a distinct visual indicator for friends-only posts.
This new 'Threads Friends' feature is presently undergoing a limited trial in Ireland, Italy, and Japan. It remains unclear when or if Meta plans to expand this test to a wider audience. Consequently, most users, including those in the US, do not have access to it at this time. However, if a user knows someone in one of the testing countries, they may be included in their 'Thriends' list.
