Thales has introduced Sentinel Envelope Plus, a significant enhancement to its Sentinel Envelope software protection solution. This new offering is engineered to fortify compiled applications against sophisticated AI-assisted threats, including reverse engineering, automated vulnerability discovery, and exploit generation. The system applies multiple protection layers without necessitating source code alterations or specific compilation environments.
AI tools are rapidly reducing the expertise and time needed for software analysis, increasing risks for vendors, especially for applications deployed outside controlled environments. On-premises, embedded, and edge devices face heightened danger as attackers can analyze software offline. This allows for more extensive searching of vulnerabilities and sensitive information.
Controlled testing demonstrated Sentinel Envelope Plus's effectiveness. An AI agent that identified 8 out of 10 vulnerabilities in an unprotected application found none in a version secured by Sentinel Envelope Plus. Despite significant effort and increased resource consumption, the AI agent ultimately ceased its analysis, unable to discover any exploitable weaknesses.
The solution transforms and recompiles sensitive application sections, adding robust defenses against decompilation, tampering, and runtime inspection. Developers can selectively apply this advanced protection to balance security with performance. Sentinel Envelope Plus also integrates optional licensing capabilities, helping vendors protect intellectual property and commercial models without altering their source code.
