Summary
- Model Y Standard offers a £7,000 saving on the regular version.
- Lower insurance group 34 achieved by reduced top speed and acceleration.
- Retains key features like 15.4-inch touchscreen and 835-litre boot.

Tesla has introduced the Model Y Standard, a new, more accessible version of its popular SUV, aiming to boost its brand image and sales. This model represents a £7,000 reduction from the standard Model Y's price, making EV ownership more attainable.
The Model Y Standard retains essential Tesla features, such as the 15.4-inch touchscreen and a spacious 835-litre boot. Exterior changes are minimal, with updated lighting clusters. Inside, the seats are now a combination of textile and vegan leather, and a fabric roof conceals the panoramic glass.
Significant cost reductions are also realized through lower long-term ownership expenses. By limiting the top speed to 110mph and 0-60mph acceleration to 6.9 seconds, the Model Y Standard achieves insurance group 34, the lowest for any Tesla. It also boasts improved efficiency, offering 4.5 miles per kWh and a 314-mile range.
Further cost-saving measures include the absence of mandatory annual servicing and attractive PCP offers starting at £299 per month. Tesla has also enhanced residual values by considering UK market preferences for resale appeal.
While driving, the Standard offers Tesla's characteristic smooth acceleration and regenerative braking. However, passive dampers result in a slightly more jarring ride over uneven surfaces compared to higher trims. The car is scheduled for first deliveries in February 2026.
