Switch 2 Game Prices: A Pricey Upgrade?

The transition to the Nintendo Switch 2 brings varied pricing for game upgrades, with costs spanning from free to $20. Native Switch 2 games can command prices as high as $80. Upgrade packs vary in cost based on the content they offer; those including DLC-sized additions are priced at $20, while games with primarily performance and visual enhancements cost $10. Some titles, like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, offer upgrades for $5.

However, not all games are receiving upgrade paths. Certain titles from Square Enix and Sega, alongside specific Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest remakes, will require full repurchase for Switch 2 versions, with save data often incompatible. This lack of upgradeability affects games such as Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD Remaster and Octopath Traveler 2. Physical Switch 2 editions may bundle upgrade packs for enhanced versions of Switch 1 games.
