Summary
- New Surface Pro and laptops feature Snapdragon Elite X2 chips.
- Qualcomm's chip-derived camera tech surpasses Apple's quality.
- Updated devices offer enhanced RAM and improved battery life.

Microsoft has unveiled updated versions of its 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface laptops at the Snapdragon Summit 2026. These new models are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Elite X2 chips, promising enhanced performance and extended battery life. The integration of these chips, which benefit from Qualcomm's extensive experience in smartphone silicon, brings notable improvements to the devices.
One significant advantage highlighted is the superior camera quality. According to Brett Ostrum, Corporate VP of Surface Devices, the image signal processing inherited from smartphone cameras allows the new Surface devices to outperform competitors, including Apple's MacBooks, in webcam quality. This enhancement is crucial for users spending more time on video conferencing platforms like Zoom and Teams.
Beyond camera improvements, the Snapdragon Elite X2 chips also contribute to longer battery life. The architecture, designed with a focus on performance per watt, addresses a key area where older x86 chips struggled. The new 13-inch Surface laptop is expected to deliver 22.5 hours of battery life, a notable increase compared to previous Intel-based models.
