Steam Machine: Deck Verified Games Effortless Transition
12 Mar
Summary
- Steam Deck verified games automatically meet Steam Machine requirements.
- Steam Machine performance targets six times that of Steam Deck.
- Steam Frame verification has stricter requirements, including VR performance.

Developers aiming to get their games certified for Valve's new Steam Machine will find the process remarkably straightforward, as the requirements closely mirror those already in place for the Steam Deck. Valve confirmed at GDC 2026 that any game verified for the Steam Deck will automatically receive Steam Machine verification. Performance targets remain at 30fps at 1080p, a benchmark expected to be easily met given the Steam Machine's projected performance, estimated to be six times that of the Steam Deck.
Valve's focus on Steam Deck verification began shortly after its 2022 launch, ensuring games worked with its unique controls, offered good frame rates, and featured legible interfaces. By 2026, over 25,000 games are either verified or playable on the handheld. The increased power of the Steam Machine, unburdened by battery or thermal constraints, should make developing for it far simpler.
For games not yet verified for the Steam Deck but seeking Steam Machine status, Valve will waive checks for UI legibility and performance guarantees beyond 1080p. This streamlined approach acknowledges the variety of displays users might employ. In contrast, the Steam Frame, another Valve device launching later in 2026, imposes stricter verification criteria. These include running games at 90fps in VR or 30fps at 720p in 2D, with mandatory UI legibility due to its display proximity.
Steam Deck verified games must undergo separate testing for the Steam Frame. Titles unsupported on the Steam Deck due to performance or compatibility issues will likewise be marked unsupported for the Steam Frame. While release dates and pricing for the Steam Frame and Machine are pending, Valve maintains they will launch in 2026, despite past delays attributed to a memory shortage.
